Michael Scopp

Certified Personal Trainer. Facilities Manager.

Mike studied Kinesiology at the University of Maryland, College Park, College of Health and Human Performance.  While attending college, and still playing Soccer competitively, he suffered a serious injury rupturing 3 of the quadriceps muscles of his right thigh.  While no surgery was required, Mike had to keep the right leg immobilized for 6 weeks while still attending college and working.   This then resulted in 3 months of Physical Therapy to re-learn to walk with a normal gait, and rebuild enough strength to eventually return to strength training and playing Soccer once again.

While learning about this injury and rehabilitation process, Mike became interested in helping people with their own injuries, weaknesses, and the ensuing mental fatigue that comes as a result of injury.  He pursued an Internship through the University, and returned to his Therapy office as a Student this time, eventually becoming a Therapist Assistant/Aide, where he learned many useful techniques for training and rehabilitating the Human body.  After receiving his Bachelor’s in Kinesiological Science, he worked for another local Fitness Training Studio in Annapolis called Fitness, Inc.  Here he learned the art of Functional Fitness, writing and teaching exercise programs and lecturing on health, wellness, and nutrition, and eventually earned and holds the credential of National Strength and Conditioning – Certified Personal Trainer.  He pursued Massage Therapy Training through Anne Arundel Community College, and earned his Degree in Massage Therapy, passing State boards to become a Maryland State Licensed Massage Therapist.  Eventually, Mike directed the training program at Fitness, Inc, and designed programs for hiring and training other Personal Trainers and Instructors, before merging with Evolutions in mid-2004.

While at Evolutions since 2004, Mike wears many hats!  He currently serves as part of the Management Team as Facilities Director, while still providing Personal Training and Massage Therapy services to clients and members of the Evolutions Community.  You will often see Mike around the Club working on equipment or addressing problems of the day’s “behind the scenes” operations of Evolutions when not in session appointments with clients.  Don’t hesitate to stop Mike or ask a question!  He is always interested in helping!

Mike currently lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland since 2006.  He enjoys calling this beautiful part of the State home with his wife, Janie, and his two kids, Hannah and Noah (who are getting older every second, it seems).  He still enjoys any, and many, outdoor activities with family and friends, from sport and games, to cycling, “glamping”, and swimming at the beach.
